This blog has been on unofficial hiatus for the better part of this year. There are a number of reasons behind that; chief among them is my job. I've said it here before, but we live in a time when people are grateful just to have a job-any job. I have the added bonus of loving my job. It's rewarding, it's always challenging (in a very good way), and I work with the most fascinating and incredible people. In five years, I have never once dreaded going to work...and that is a wonderful feeling. My company is thriving and growing despite a down economy, and that requires more attention and involvement than it has in years past.
Also, I am now the mother of three teenagers. It was amusing to share anecdotes about them at one point in time, but now seems a terrible invasion of their privacy. This blog will no longer be a forum to vent my parental frustrations, and in hindsight, never should have been. Even though I'll always be Amy the Mom, I've never considered myself a "mommy blogger." That's not an identity that rings true for me. I love my kids, but when they all fly the nest in five years, I will still have a very full life.
As I look back on two and a half years of posts, I'm proud of some of my work. I miss the routine of writing regularly, too. After some self examination, it became obvious that the posts I appreciated most and that were the easiest to write were about cooking and food. I was at a graduation party last month, and a friend of a friend admitted he was disappointed I was no longer sharing my recipes on line, and his wife chimed in that my contributions were always popular with their notoriously picky daughters. I had no idea this couple even knew I existed in the blogosphere.
Cooking has never been a chore for me. Whether I'm cooking a bowl of pasta for myself, or preparing a buffet for 50, I enjoy the process. I love sharing recipes and believe in culinary karma-what goes around comes around.
So in the next couple of weeks, please come and visit me at The Spoon Squad, www.spoonsquad.com (don't bother clicking yet, it doesn't go anywhere) . I will share recipes, cooking techniques, new product and cookbook reviews and the occasional restaurant critique. My daughter, Annelise, will contribute to a section dedicated to Teen Taste. I'm deciding right now if I should stick to Typepad, or if I'll make the jump to Wordpress. As much as I want to unveil this as a final and finished product, the design may take a little longer than I'm comfortable with. Two weeks should be enough time to create a passable product.
On that note, I want to thank all my readers and friends-both in real life and on the Internet. Thank you for all your support and your comments over the years. I hope you'll follow me on the new journey!
